  • OSHA requires a confined space standby rescue team for any permit required entry per OSHA 1910.146. This requires a team on site to effect a quick and effective rescue of a person in a confined space.

  • Due to the complexities and expense of equipment, many career and volunteer fire departments don’t have equipment to even attempt a rescue. If they do, average response time is 5 minutes after they receive a call. Irreversible death can occur in less than 4 minutes. Having a team on site for standby can lessen the time for a rescuer to make contact and recover a victim, making survival more likely.

  • Depending on activities going on, many insurances require EMS standby for large events to stabilize victims prior to a transporting unit arriving. An EMS unit to transport may take up to 20 minutes to respond. Providing medical care initially may make the difference between life or death.
